KitaCon III Buildup!
With just under two weeks to go until Manga Market’s next convention appearance, I thought it was just about time to start ramping up the excitement with a look at what Kitacon III has to offer us!
So far, six guests have been announced for the event – Lamia Cross, a Japanese-born singer-songwriter; Brina Palencia, an American voice actor, who has worked on shows such as Ouran High School Host Club, Hetalia Axis Powers, Soul Eater, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and One Piece; Neon Genocide and PixieKitty, a husband-and-wife cosplay team; Christine Ni, a manhwa translator and Chinese Pop-Culture expert; and Yurie, the mind behind the strangely beautiful ‘little apple dolls’.
Lamia Cross will be performing on the Saturday night in the main hall, whilst the other guests will be helping out with a variety of panels across the weekend.
Over the weekend, KitaCon will be keeping you busy! Friday boasts a Street Fighter IV tournament and advice on Cosplay Photos, and the ever popular Pub Quiz, whilst a J-Pop DJ Set and a Lady Gaga fest can keep you dancing until 2am.
Saturday is when the Dealers Room and the Bring-and-Buy open, and you’ve also got Build a Mecha, Podcasting workshops and panels on Cosplay Make-Up, Beginners Cosplay and Tips for Masquerades and Skits. There is also a Cosplay Competition. If drawing is more your thing, there are panels on Basic Manga Characters and Manga Methods. Equally civilised offerings include the Lolita Tea Party and a Mahjong Game, as well as a Pokemon Tournament, and a Para Para session.
The evening begins with the Masquerade at 5pm, followed by Lamia Cross and a fantastic club night, Kitacon Rocks! And, if you’re feeling lonely, or too drunk to realise what’s happening, there’s the Hentai Power Hour from 2:30-3:30am, Sunday Morning.
Sunday sees another Super Street Fighter IV tournament, this one bringing the real grudge matches! There’s also a ball-jointed doll meet and a Q&A session with Brina Palencia. At the same time, more cosplay panels are running, on Crossplay, Wigs, Armour and Cosplaying on a Budget. There’s a Steampunk meet, and a Transformers panel before the day draws to a close with Kita’s Got Talent followed by the closing ceremony. After the closing is the Kita Prom, and Kareoke, before the show winds down with a ‘Dance Dance’ club night!
You can see the full schedule here.
Screenings for the show haven’t yet been confirmed.
