Manga Jiman Competition 2011
The Embassy of Japan has launched its Manga Jiman Contest for 2011. The contest, for entrants who are aged 14 or over by 1st January 2012, boasts prizes of: 2 return air tickets to Japan, A Toshiba laptop, and a Ricoh digital camera, for first, second and third places respectively.
A selection of Runners Up will also receive a range of Manga publications available in the UK, amongst other prizes.
If that wasn’t enough, the winning entries will be displayed in a special exhibition at the embassy of Japan.
The theme for the competition is: “New beginnings”, and all entrants must refer to this subject in some way, with the competition being judged by a panel of anime and industry experts on 7 criteria: originality, story-telling, layout and design, character design, use of onomatopoeia (and other such signifiers of manga) and artistic ability/style.
The deadline for entry is Tuesday 1 November 2011, and all submissions should be from UK CITIZENS and between 6-8 A4 pages, reading from left to right.
All entries should be sent (in post or person) with an accompanied entry form to:
Manga Jiman 2011 Competition,
Embassy of Japan,
London W1J 7JT.
Last year’s theme was “nami” or “wave”, with the winner being announced as Clio Millet for her entry: “Beyond Raging Waves”. The full results are listed on the
Embassy of Japan’s website. All winning entries can be viewed on My eBook.
